Memo to the Berkeley Police
Drew’s legitimate self defense was the big cover-up in this case. Who covered it up? The Berkeley Police Department (through either their negligent, or lazy (possibly overworked) attitudinal failure to do a full forensic investigation including calls on Wootton’s three cell phones), and the Alameda County District Attorney’s office by its politically safe and opportunistic evaluation of the case which led it to pursue a simple murder conviction that took the spotlight off of what really transpired. Former Alameda County District Attorney Earl Warren would turn in his grave over this travesty of justice
Fraternities and their members should not be allowed to run in packs on the street, attacking people. Fraternities should be required to obey the law, as we are all required to obey the law.
Does the BPD want credibility and leadership credentials among the people of Berkeley? Then deal with this fully and honestly. We --people of Berkeley -- are on it and we are going to keep on it until the truth of what happened in the death of Christopher Wootton is acknowledged by Berkeley officials.
