The Berkeley Police and the Alameda District Attorney treat frats with favoritism.
Incomplete Investigation.
1. The court record shows, that although Berkeley Police Sgt. Sabins raised the topic of self defense when interrogating Drew, the police failed to determine what really happened and arrest the UC students and their friends who for no legitimate reason instigated a confrontation, (initially as a group of six on two that –with cell phone communication -- grew, surrounded and attacked Drew and his friend Adam despite the fact that Adam brandished a bottle and shouted, “Get back or I’m going to hit you with this bottle!” and Drew waved a pocket knife and shouted “Who wants to die?” in a desperate effort to avoid being attacked.
2. Drew and Kaitlyn all had their cell phones taken. But Christopher Wooton had three cell phones in his possession. Although a taped conversation from Drew to his friend Adam was analyzed in great detail, the Berkeley Police Department conducted no reported forensic analysis of the three phones in Wootton’s possession, and gave away one of the phones. The Berkeley Police Department didn’t bother to track down who Wootton had called just before his death or try to determine the substance of those conversations. This failure by the Berkeley Police Department has yet to be explained or justified.
No arrests of fraternity members for:
· Attacking Andrew and Adam;
· Using false identification to buy alcohol,
· Serving alcohol to underage minors,
· Making false statements to the police in an effort to prevent themselves from being charged,
· Contributing to Christopher Wootton's death by their wild, drunken behavior.
Drew is the son of two working class people. He was going to Berkeley City College and working at Jamba Juice. A Berkeley resident and Berkeley high school graduate, the powers that be decided he was not entitled to the same favored treatment as elite UC frat members.
